90s, high humidity arrive for middle of week

High temperatures in the 90s and high humidity are forecast Tuesday and through the middle part of the week as unseasonable heat stretches across much of the eastern U.S.

Tuesday is forecast to hit 91 downtown under mostly cloudy skies, with dew points in the upper 60s, an uncomfortable level. Warm 10-15 mph breezes are forecast from the southwest.

Wednesday could be even hotter, with highs forecast in the mid-90s and dew points around 70 degrees. The heat index could near 100 degrees.

Thursday is forecast to bring one more day of the heat wave, but also storms that could mark its end. Highs are forecast in the lower 90s with a 50 percent chance of storms.

By Friday and into the weekend, high temperatures are forecast to drop back into the 70s.

Normal highs this time of year are around 80 degrees, with record highs mostly in the 90s. Wednesday is the latest date on record to hit 100 degrees in Baltimore, in 1983.
