Friday forecast: Mostly cloudy, rain, high near 83

The National Weather Service is calling for Friday to be mostly cloudy in the Baltimore area, with a high near 83 and east winds between 8 and 17 miles per hour. There is a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m., and some storms could be severe.

A small craft advisory is in effect Friday afternoon and Friday night for the tidal Potomac River and Maryland Chesapeake Bay. Minor tidal flooding is possible during high tide Friday night along the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay and the tidal Potomac River.

Friday night is expected to be rainy, with a low around 65 and south winds between 8 and 17 miles per hour. There is a 90 percent chance of precipitation. The weather service warns that some storms could be severe, producing "damaging winds, large hail and isolated tornadoes." Heavy rainfall could also lead to flash flooding. New rainfall amounts between three quarters of an inch and one inch are possible.

Saturday is expected to be partly sunny, with a high near 76 and west winds between 11 and 14 miles per hour.

Saturday night is expected to be partly cloudy, with a low around 58 and west winds around 9 miles per hour.
