Funeral arrangements have been set for the Army National Guardsman who was swept away by floodwaters while attempting to rescue someone in Ellicott City last weekend.
The funeral for Staff Sergeant Eddison “Eddie” A. Hermond will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at The Church at Severn Run in Severn. A public visitation will be held a half-hour before the services.
Hermond will be buried at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.
The 39-year-old was trying to help a woman trapped in the flood in the historic downtown when he was swept away by rushing water. His body was found two days later in the Patapsco River. He had drifted to Catonsville along River Road, about a quarter-mile form Frederick Road, Howard County police said.
Hermond had worked at Victoria Restaurant Group in Howard County while he served in the National Guard. He was one of their first employees when they opened Victoria Gastro Pub in Columbia in 2007. He worked his way up to management and helped open Manor Hill Tavern in Old Ellicott City in 2017.
