The worst thunderstorms struck south and west of Baltimore on Monday, the second straight night of lightning, rain and high winds.
The recent heat wave has caused a buildup of moisture and unstable conditions, fueling the evening storms, said Ray Martin, meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
"I would expect at least a chance of thunderstorms through the next several days," he said.
The worst storms Monday night struck Anne Arundel, Prince George's and Montgomery counties. More than 11,000 people were without power at 10 p.m., according to Baltimore Gas and Electric Co.'s outage map.
