What looked like a substantial storm a few days ago is looking more like it will bring just light showers or a wintry mix Saturday night, according to weather forecasters.
Models suggested a "potent" low-pressure system would sweep up the mid-Atlantic as of about three days ago, according to National Weather Service forecast discussions. But most of the storm's energy and precipitation is now expected to stay in the Carolinas, meteorologists said.
Most of any precipitation to fall here is expected to be rain, but "there is still the possibility for much of the area to see at least a couple snow flakes," they wrote.
The official weather service forecast suggests 50 percent chances of a wintry mix from about 9 p.m. Saturday through around daybreak Sunday.
