Triple-digit heat index forecast Saturday, Sunday

This is forecast to be Baltimore's hottest weekend of the summer yet, with the heat index expected to surpass 100 degrees both Saturday and Sunday.

Highs are forecast in the mid-90s, with dew points in the lower 70s making it feel as much as 10 degrees hotter.

A setup known as a Bermuda high is in place. That is when a high-pressure system off the coast, with clockwise circulation, pumping hot, moist air up from the Gulf of Mexico. Heat in the 90s and 100s is forecast all weekend across the southeastern United States.

Saturday is forecast to be Baltimore's first day in the 90s in nearly a month. The last time temperatures reached the 90s at Baltimore-Washington Thurgood Marshall Airport was June 23, with a high of 94 degrees, the hottest of the year.

That mark could be challenged both Saturday and Sunday.
