Though this has been an atypically hot month of May, the region had not yet broken the 90-degree barrier. Before Thursday, the hottest day of the year was May 12, when the high was 89 degrees.

The last time BWI hit the 90s was Sept. 6, when the high was 93 degrees.

The year's first 90-degree day came a day later than this year's, with a 90-degree high May 27, 2014. In 2013, BWI hit 90 way back on April 10.
