Single digit wind chills, 40 mph gusts and icy conditions in forecast

Frigid winds are blowing in Wednesday, with gusts up to 40 mph bringing wind chills in the single digits.

Icy conditions are likely in areas that received snow Tuesday, the National Weather Service warned in a statement issued early Wednesday morning. "Surfaces that were previously wet or slushy later yesterday afternoon and evening are now icy," the statement said.

Temperatures dropped to 14 degrees early Wednesday morning, rising to the lower 20s by mid-morning and expected to hit the upper 20s in the afternoon. Partly to mostly cloudy skies are expected, with chances for flurries in the morning.

Strong winds are forecast from the west and northwest, at a steady 15-25 mph with stronger gusts. Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. officials said they are preparing for possible wind-related power outages.
