Severe thunderstorms could bring damaging wind gusts, large hail and possibly some tornadoes to the Baltimore region Friday afternoon and evening.
A severe storm watch is in effect across Central Maryland through 10 p.m.
Scattered storms could bring wind gusts up to 70 mph and hail as thick as 1.5 inches in diameter, according to the National Weather Service.
Some storm systems could develop into "supercells," large and organized storms with rotating updrafts of air that can create tornadoes and large hail.
Stormy weather is forecast across the Northeast through late Friday, with the most serious risk in New England. A tornado watch is in effect across parts of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Vermont.
