While we're enjoying a beautiful afternoon, a broad swath of the middle of the country is bearing down for the threat of tornadoes.
Conditions are expected to be ripe for tornado activity across the Ohio and Tenneessee valleys Friday, AccuWeather.com reports.
"Warm, moist air will combine with strong winds aloft in such a way to generate powerful thunderstorms that may spawn tornadoes," AccuWeather meteorologists wrote in a bulletin. The greatest risk is expected across a footprint that includes the Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Louisville, Ky., and Nashville, Tenn., metropolitan areas.
The National Weather Service is meanwhile predicting a round of severe storms tonight that could produce large hail in areas already impacted by an outbreak of tornadoes this morning. Tornadoes moved through Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri and Illinois in the early morning hours.
The extent of any severe whether predicted for Maryland in the coming days is limited to flooding that could arise from another rainy day headed on Saturday.
