Some scattered showers or storms are possible for the 140th Preakness Stakes on Saturday.
The National Weather Service forecasts 40-50 percent chances of rain showers or storms, with highs expected in the upper 70s or lower 80s.
The Weather Channel and the Weather Underground meanwhile predict some morning sunshine and afternoon storm potential.
High pressure is forecast to bring calm, pleasant weather for the second half of this week, with seasonable highs around 70 degrees and sunshine for Black-Eyed Susan Day at Pimlico on Friday. But that high pressure is expected to move off to the east, bringing a return to a more summerlike pattern for the weekend.
"It's looking like there would be at least some scattered showers and thunderstorms and kind of a typical humid summer pattern," said Bryan Jackson, a weather service meteorologist.
Some precipitation is possible early this week to moisten the track, but not much -- storms are possible Monday evening, but the region is expected to miss any rain associated with a cool front passing through Tuesday.
After that, it should be dry until Saturday.
