Rain forecast Friday, Saturday -- but not because of Matthew

Overcast skies and some rain showers are forecast in the Baltimore area Friday and Saturday -- but they aren't from the outer bands of Hurricane Matthew.

The wet and cloudy conditions are forecast ahead of a cold front expected to move through at some point on Saturday.

It is the same cold front that is helping keep Matthew away from the mid-Atlantic. It extends the length of the East Coast and will help push the hurricane off shore as it nears the Carolinas.

"Saturday looks to be a fairly dreary area-wide through at least midday with periods of locally moderate rain, low clouds, and temperatures struggling to rise through the 60s," meteorologists at the National Weather Service's Baltimore/Washington forecast office wrote early Friday.

Less than half an inch of rainfall is expected -- nothing like the heavy precipitation that lingered over the region last week.

Cool conditions in the 60s are expected to remain on Sunday and into early next week, but sunshine is in the forecast.

Lows could drop into the 40s early Monday and Tuesday for the first time since May.
