Storms that rolled through the region Monday night brought several inches of rain, with more than an inch and a half at the airport, breaking a record.
At Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, 1.54 inches fell, breaking a record of 1.47 inches dating to 1879, according to the National Weather Service. Over the past 24 hours, the airport saw 1.69 inches of rain.
Other areas saw greater rainfall -- 4.11 inches in Towson, 3.61 inches near Columbia, 3.38 inches near Severn, 3.06 inches not far from the airport in Linthicum, 2.64 inches at the Inner Harbor, 2.55 inches in Annapolis, 2.51 inches in Westminster and 2.06 inches in Perry Hall.
The deluge prompted flash flood warnings. In Anne Arundel County, cars were stranded on Brock Bridge Road near Savage while Defense Highway was closed near Crofton because of high water.
