Mostly cloudy skies are forecast throughout the day.

Lows were expected to struggle to drop into the 60s downtown overnight, falling to the lower 60s in the suburbs. Normal lows this time of year are in the upper 40s, with highs in the upper 60s.

Today's date is fall's earliest on which a sub-freezing temperature was recorded in Baltimore. Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport reached 31 degrees Oct. 4, 1974.

The daytime warmth is not forecast to come close to a record, with high marks well into the 90s for much of the first half of October.

More warmth is forecast through the weekend, with partly cloudy skies, highs in the mid-80s and lows in the 60s.

A frontal system, possibly mixing with remnants of Tropical Storm Karen, could bring showers and cooler temperatures, though still warmer than normal, to start the next work week.
