An unsettled weather pattern that moved in Wednesday morning could bring an inch or more of rain through Friday, and possibly flooding late Thursday.
A front passed over the region overnight and is expected to remain stalled across the mid-Atlantic through the end of the week. That will likely mean on and off rain showers, and at least cloudy skies.
Flash flooding is possible Thursday night as a storm system is expected to move in from the Ohio Valley, National Weather Service forecasters said.
The risk of severe weather is predicted to keep to the mountains of Western Maryland, stretching from Pennsylvania to the western Carolinas. But the storms could nonetheless bring heavy downpours to Central Maryland.
The rain is needed to erase a precipitation deficit for the month to date. Less than half an inch of rain has fallen at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport in June, while a normal monthly total is nearly 3 1/2 inches.
Precipitation is running about normal for the year to date at BWI.
Wet weather is forecast to move out by Friday night, making for a pleasant and sunny weekend.
