The National Weather Service on Wednesday morning issued a freezing rain advisory until noon for the Baltimore/Washington area, with accumulations of just over a trace expected.
NWS issued the warning at 6:24 a.m. and said that temperatures in the lower 30s could prompt freezing precipitation of a few hundredths of an inch before changing to all rain by Wednesday afternoon.
Light ice accumulations are possible on roadways and sidewalks, possibly resulting in hazardous travel, NWS said
Temperatures are forecast in the 40s for most of Wednesday, ahead of rain and a brief warm-up Thursday.
Wednesday morning was forecast to start around freezing, with afternoon highs around 50 degrees. Mostly cloudy skies are forecast. A 10-15 mph breeze from the north is expected to make it feel colder.
Chances for rain are forecast to start Wednesday night and increase by Thursday morning. After temperatures hover in the mid-40s overnight, highs are forecast around 70 degrees Thursday afternoon.
As much as three-quarters of an inch to an inch of rain is forecast during the day Thursday, with possible thunderstorms bringing wind gusts up to 15-25 mph.
Rain is expected to taper off by Friday morning, with mostly cloudy skies and highs in the upper 50s Friday afternoon.
Temperatures drop back into the 30s and 40s for the weekend, but with sunshine returning.
