Severe thunderstorm watch issued across Maryland through Friday night

A severe thunderstorm watch was in effect for all of Maryland on Friday, with a risk of strong winds in the afternoon and evening.

The watch, which indicates ripe conditions for storm development, extends until 9 p.m. for Central Maryland and the Eastern Shore and 8 p.m. for Western Maryland.

Temperatures were forecast in the 80s, approaching 90 degrees, in the Baltimore area Friday with more thunderstorm chances in the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

Partly cloudy skies are forecast in the morning, with more clouds possible in the afternoon with a chance of storms. Cloud cover kept temperatures reaching the 90s as was predicted on Thursday.

This summer weather pattern is forecast to continue through the weekend and into early next week.

Highs Saturday are forecast around 90 degrees with some storm chances. Sunday could reach the mid- to upper-80s with storms likely.

Storms are also likely Monday, with highs in the mid-80s.
