Heat index could approach 100 by weekend

Temperatures are forecast to surge into the 90s by Thursday, with humidity making it feel close to 100 degrees Friday and Saturday afternoons, according to the National Weather Service.

After a period of sunshine and relatively low humidity Wednesday, with highs in the mid-80s, the heat and humidity are both expected to rise into the weekend.

Highs are forecast in the lower 90s Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Dew points are forecast in the mid-60s Thursday and the upper 60s to around 70 degrees Friday and Saturday, an uncomfortable level at which the air feels moist and sticky.

The heat index those afternoons could reach the upper 90s.
