Temperatures were forecast to drop below freezing around the region for the first time in weeks early Friday morning, but in most areas the lowest readings came in at the mid-30s.
Carroll County and northern Baltimore and Harford counties were under freeze warnings until 9 a.m. Friday, though overnight temperatures only dipped to 36 in Westminster, Keymar in Carroll County, and about the same in western Howard County.
Temperatures were expected drop to the mid-30s in other parts of the Baltimore region; overnight the lowest temperature at BWI Airport was 39 degrees at 4:54 a.m.
Under freeze conditions, unprotected crops and plants sensitive to freezing temperatures could be damaged or killed, the National Weather service cautioned. House plants can be protected with blankets, if necessary, or brought inside if they are potted.
