BWI's streak below 90 degrees ends at 18 days

An 18-day stretch without temperatures hitting 90 degrees at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport ended with a muggy, tropical-feeling day Friday.

Temperatures peaked at 90 degrees at the airport at 2:14 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. The heat index was likely about 96 degrees at that time, with the dew point at 70 degrees.

It was the first time the thermometer of record for Baltimore had reached that milestone since July 21.

In August 2012, BWI had already hit the 90s on six days by this point in the month; in August 2011, five out of the first nine days of the month topped 90. Those months were amid two of the hottest summers on record for Baltimore.
