BWI hits 96 degrees Thursday, tying hottest reading of the summer

Baltimore officially hit 96 degrees Thursday afternoon, tying a mark for the hottest day of the summer so far.

That temperature was reported at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, the region's point of record, at 3:33 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

It was hotter at the Inner Harbor -- 98 degrees at 3:43 p.m.

Factoring in humidity, the heat index at both the airport and downtown reached the lower triple digits.

BWI also hit 96 degrees June 11.

More heat is forecast Friday, with highs in the lower 90s, but lower humidity is forecast to provide some slight relief.

While dew points were in the lower 70s Thursday -- a level that indicates oppressive humidity -- the dew point is forecast to stay in the 60s Friday. That still suggests uncomfortable conditions.

By Friday night, a cold front is forecast to cross the region and stall to the south, bringing seasonable temperatures in the upper 80s but also chances for showers and thunderstorms both Saturday and Sunday.

The region is coming up on the four-year anniversary of its last triple-digit temperatures, July 18.
