Baltimore posts year's hottest temperatures Monday

A brief spell of heat brought the hottest temperatures of the year to date Monday, with more to come Tuesday.

Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport reached 84 degrees by 4 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. The Inner Harbor briefly hit 86 degrees just before 4 p.m.

Sunday's high of 81 degrees at BWI was previously the hottest of the season so far.

BWI hasn't seen a high of 84 degrees or hotter since Sept. 21.

Normal highs this time of year are around 71 degrees. Record highs in early May range from the upper 80s to the lower 90s.

Highs are again forecast in the mid-80s on Tuesday. Highs are forecast closer to normal but still above average, in the mid-70s, Wednesday and Thursday, before bouncing back up to the lower 80s Friday into the weekend.
