Baltimore got a month's worth of rain last week; Salisbury got 10 inches

More than 4 inches of rain fell at Baltimore's point of record last week, more than a month's worth of precipitation and more than enough to offset what had been a dry start to fall.

At Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, 4.04 inches of rain fell from last Monday through Sunday.

Before that, less than three-quarters of an inch of rain had fallen at BWI this month, after no rain was reported at BWI for the last third of August. Normal September rainfall is about 4 inches.

For the year to date, Baltimore rainfall is running about 3 inches above normal.

About 3.5 inches of rain fell at the Inner Harbor last week, according to the weather service, with more than 5 inches for all of September.

Precipitation was far heavier in the southern portions of the state. In Salisbury, nearly 13 inches of rain fell in September, including almost 10 inches last week and 5 inches on Thursday alone.

Forecasters are watching for chances of more rain by the end of this week and into next weekend. After potentially devastating Haiti, Jamaica, Cuba and the Bahamas, Hurricane Matthew could track up the U.S. east coast.

In the meantime, sunny weather is forecast through this week.
