A stubborn heat wave was slow to wane Wednesday, a seventh consecutive day in the 90s or hotter, as a relatively cool yet stormy stretch of weather began.
Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport hit 95 degrees Wednesday afternoon. BWI, the region's point of record, has now hit the 90s for 13 days out of the past two weeks.
Temperatures are expected to again hit the lower 90s Thursday, but could peak in the 80s Friday and through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service. That is seasonable for this time of year and a break from the string of highs in the mid- to upper 90s. On Monday BWI hit 100 degrees for the first time in four years.
Still, with high humidity expected, heat index values are forecast to reach the 90s into the weekend.
A frontal boundary is forecast to stall across the region for the next few days, with atmospheric disturbances passing through overhead, bringing daily chances for showers and storms through Monday.
Heavy rain is possible Thursday and Friday. The weather service's Storm Prediction Center forecasts marginal risks of severe storms developing over the region.
