After wet morning commute, Groundhog Day temps to reach 40s, then drop

An overnight wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain could make for a slippery Monday morning commute, according to the National Weather Service.

The rain should stop by around 9 a.m., and temperatures are expected to remain above freezing for much of the day, topping out at 44 degrees in the afternoon.

Gusty winds as fast as 46 mph during the day could make it to feel more frigid; a wind chill in the 30s throughout the day is expected drops into single digits Monday night.

A Winter Weather Advisory was issued Sunday for Baltimore, Frederick, Carroll and Washington counties.

The Baltimore City Health Department issued a "Code Blue" advisory Sunday night, extending homeless shelter hours and opening extra spaces for Monday and Tuesday. It was the fourth such advisory the department has issued this year.
