Flash flood warning expires, but rain expected all week

As a torrential downpour that pounded Baltimore Monday subsided at about 9 p.m., the National Weather Service's flash flood warning gave way to less intense warnings of continued showers and sporadic thunderstorms.

An areal flood warning, which cautions of more gradually rising waters than a flash flood, was declared until 1 a.m. for Baltimore City and Frederick and Harford counties.

Rain is expected to persist all week. Another 10th to a quarter of an inch of rain was expected Tuesday, with higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. The high is forecast to be about 71 degrees and it should be foggy in the morning and overcast the rest of the day, the weather service said.

"Although the heavy rain has ended for now, creeks and streams are still rising and there is threat for flooding for the remainder of the evening into the overnight," the weather service said. "Additionally, more heavy rain could affect portions of the area later tonight."
