Commotion Down the Ocean kicks off Dew Tour

It's Dew time in OC and the town is kicking it off with some pre-tour festivities, starting with tomorrow's Commotion Down The Ocean at the Ocean Bowl Skate Park.

The free event will feature amateur skateboard competitions plus an opportunity to gawk at some of the extreme sports celebrities in town for the Dew Tour aka Pantech Open.

Appearances by athletes Bucky Lasek (of Dundalk), Andy Macdonald, Pierre Luc Gagnon, Adama Taylor, Elliot Sloan and other Dew Tour pros.

There will also be a vendor village, live music from a DJ and a chance for autographs.

The Commotion Down The Ocean is also a benefit for Grind for Life, one of the organizers of the event. The group was founded by pro skater and cancer survivor Mike Rogers, who uses it to increase cancer awareness and raise funds for families who need help fighting the disease.

The competition gets underway at 2 p.m. Registration for skatebaorders opens at 10 a.m. There is a $20 entry fee tocompete.

The event also celebrates 36 years of the Ocean Bowl Skate Park, which was created in 1975 and is one of the oldest municipal skate parks in operation worldwide. Visitors can use the park throughout summer. Admission is $12 on weekdays and $15 on weekends. (A year-round pass is also available.) Helmet and pads are required. The park is located at Third Street and St. Louis Avenue.
