's Springfest sets summer in motion. The four-day event, in its 22nd year, begins May 3 and features live entertainment headlined by The Fabulous Hubcaps, Loretta Lynn, Eddie Money and Survivor. (Loretta Lynn concert is sold out.) The festival takes place in the inlet parking lot at the south end of the boardwalk and includes more than 30 vendors for food and nearly 200 artisans showcasing arts and crafts.

Dover Days Festival
Get festive at the three-day 2012 Dover Days Festival, beginning May 4. Historical re-enactments will set the stage for the 79th year of the free event. The festival includes a midnight tour of historic haunts as you investigate the paranormal, the Dover Days 5K and One Mile Walk/Fun Run, live outdoor entertainment, fireworks, arts and crafts, maypole dancing and more than 300 vendors. On Saturday, the largest day of the festival, don't miss the Dover Days parade and costumed pet parade. Other highlights include Colonial and Victorian artisans demonstrating age-old apparel-making techniques including silhouette-making, a car show and an exotic bird and native animal show.

Around the World Embassy Tour
Got your passport ready? Board a free international excursion as you celebrate Passport DC's fifth anniversary with tours of more than 40 embassies representing six continents. Embassy visitors can enjoy karate demonstrations, sari-wrapping lessons, henna applications and wine tastings, among other activities. The May 5 event kicks off a monthlong taste of culture from around the world, including the International Children's Festival (May 6); Fiesta Asia Street Fair (May 19); and European Union Open House (May 12).

Cinco de Mayo National Festival
Cinco de Mayo is no longer just about Mexico; the Maru Montero Dance Company has transformed the holiday into an annual Latin American cultural celebration. Celebrate May 5 at the free 20th annual Cinco de Mayo Festival at the National Mall. Dedicated to promoting the joy and beauty of the Latin culture in the United States, Maru Montero Dance Company will perform festive dances of Mexican folk, cha-cha, mambo, salsa, tango and more. Highlights of the festival include a Mexican market, Latino food, arts and crafts for kids and live performances including Luis Enrique. The event also includes a health fair sponsored by the League of United Latin American Citizens with free health screenings and healthy food demonstrations.

Take pride in Maryland's capital at the first Annapolis City Fair during the weekend of the National Offshore One-Design Regatta. Hosted by the Annapolis City Dock and the National Sailing Center & Hall of Fame, spend the weekend of May 5-6 celebrating the diversity of the historic community. The interactive fun includes pony rides, a Lego building station, a Jaws of Life demonstration and a life-sized chess game.
