Horseshoe Crab and Shorebird Festival: Get ready for a day of shoreside adventures at this Delaware Bay festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 28 at Milton Memorial Park. Play I-spy with the horseshoe crabs and shorebirds, and join in on the fun with arts and crafts, live music, food and sails down the Broadkill River. Free.


Maritime Celebration: Decide if a sailor's life is truly for you at this festival that celebrates all things maritime with activities, games and displays, including a water cannon display, all at the Lewes Ferry Terminal. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 14. Free.

33rd annual Spring Sidewalk Sale: From May 20 to May 22, participating shops in downtown Rehoboth Beach, Dewey Beach and Route One will offer special deals and unique finds, tax-free. Times may vary depending on stores.


South Side Shoot Out Skimboarding Contest: Grab your skimboard. Team Skim USA returns June 4 and 5 at Delaware Seashore State Park in Dewey Beach.

Rehoboth Beach Restaurant Week: Stay in Rehoboth Beach for the day or the whole week for a titillating experience for your taste buds. From June 5 through June 10, participating Rehoboth eateries will offer three-course prix-fixe meals priced at $25, $35 and $45 for a hearty sample of Delaware cuisine.

Rehoboth Beach VegFest: Prepare for a veggie-filled weekend. From June 10 to June 12, this vegetarian event will host cooking demos, music, film screenings, art exhibitions, yoga and more all in celebration of vegetarianism. The free festival will take place on June 11, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Epworth United Methodist Church, 19285 Road 271.

Lewes Garden Tour: Spend a summer day touring private gardens in historic Lewes at this year's 26th annual tour. Local artists will paint in the tour gardens as attendees enjoy lunch and browse more than 40 vendors at the garden market in Zwaanendael Park. Free shuttle service available for ticket holders. Event is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 18. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 the day of the tour.

Mid-Atlantic Sea Glass and Coastal Arts Festival: This festival will celebrate coastal treasures with works from more than 70 sea glass artists, who will be joined by decoy carvers and waterfowl artists. Festival starts at 9 a.m. June 25-26 at Cape May-Lewes Ferry Terminal, 43 Cape Henlopen Dr., Lewes. Tickets are $5 per person, per day. Children under 12 years old are free.


Downtown Rehoboth Beach July Fourth Fireworks: Celebrate Independence Day on Main Street on July 3 with the annual fireworks display along the beach and boardwalk in Rehoboth. Live entertainment at the Bandstand will also take place before and after the fireworks, which are set to begin at 9:15 p.m. Though the event is free and funded by the community, donations are encouraged. Rain date is July 4.

67th Annual Cottage Tour of Art: The Rehoboth Art League has selected eight homes and cottages of Rehoboth Beach, including the historic 1743 Homestead, for a self-paced tour of diverse landscape, gripping architecture and interior designs. Tour starts at 10 a.m. July 12-13. Tickets are $35. Ages 13 and up.

Nanticoke Riverfest: Get ready for a day full of "Boot Scootin' on the Nanticoke" River at this two-day festival. The 22nd annual Seaford event kicks off with a "float in" on the river to the event's main location, where additional highlights will take place, including the Duck Dash, canoe and kayak races, an art show, and more. July 8-9.

Running of the Bull: Sponsored by local nightlife spot The Starboard, Dewey Beach's tradition celebrates its 20th anniversary on July 9 with a riveting simulation of the same event in Pamplona, Spain. The event is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. Free.

Seafood and Arts Festival: Settle down at Indian River Marina at Delaware Seashore State Park for some fresh seafood, activities and art from more than 50 vendors at the 8th annual seafood and arts festival. Held on July 23 at 10 a.m. Free.


St. Peter's Episcopal Church Annual Art Show: More than 100 artists and exhibitors will surround St. Peter's Square with displays of paintings, jewelry, ceramics, mixed media creations and more for this 50th annual art show. Be sure to bring your money for lunch and a chance to purchase featured artworks in the show's charity raffle and silent auctions. 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on July 2. Free.


43rd Annual Outdoor Fine Art and Fine Craft Show. Gather 'round at the Rehoboth Art League's grounds for two weekends full of fine art and crafts from dozens of artists, in addition to the food, entertainment and music. The event starts at 10 a.m. Aug. 6-7 and Aug. 13-14 at the Rehoboth Art League, 12 Dodds Lane, Rehoboth Beach. $5 admission. Info:

Eastern Shore Afram Festival. This free outdoor African American multicultural event on Aug. 13 features fun for the whole family, including live music, cultural foods, exhibits and special presentations like traditional African drumming. Sand Castle Contest. The 38th annual sandcastle contest on Sept. 10 is expected to bring out more than 100 teams to craft creatures and other creations out of sand on Fisherman's Beach at the north end of Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk. Participants in the contest may enter starting at 8:30 a.m. Judging begins at 3 p.m. and winners will be announced around 5 p.m. Registration is free.

Riverwalk "Freedom" Festival: This 16th annual event will feature food vendors, live entertainment and fireworks in downtown Milford on Sept. 9-10. Free.

38th Bethany Beach Boardwalk Arts Festival: The beach boardwalk and bandstand will feature jewelry, poetry, photography, watercolor and other works of art by more than 100 artists from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 10. Additional attractions include a farmers market and a wine tasting. Free.

Dewey Beach Sprint Triathlon: Challenge yourself this summer with this three-hour race Sept. 17 at Delaware Seashore State Park.

Tour de Sussex: Explore parts of southern Delaware by bike with fellow cyclers at this cycling community festival. The mass ride starts at 8 a.m. rain or shine at Delaware Technical Community College in Georgetown on Sept. 24. $25 for ages 16 and under. Register by June 30 for $55, by Aug. 31 for $65 and by Sept. 23 for $75. Registration the day of is $85.


Dewey Beach Music Conference and Festival: Immerse yourself in the world of music at this two-day, three-night conference and festival where performances, demo and mentoring sessions and meet and greets with music professionals. Sept 22-25. Various venues in Dewey Beach. Registration is $35 if you register by Aug. 24. Register from Aug. 25 until day of conference for $50.

4th annual Lewes Dragon Boat Festival: Several teams will compete in this traditional dragon boat race in Canalfront Park in Lewes, raising money for the Sussex Academy on Sept. 18. The event starts at 9 a.m. Free to attend.

Event series

Rehoboth Beach Bandstand's 53rd Annual Summer Concert Series: Find your way to the bandstand on a weekend to see national and local entertainers, including the Glenn Miller Orchestra and The Morrison Brothers Band, who will perform every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 10 through Sept. 3. The series of weekend performances officially begins on June 10, but you can get a glimpse of what to expect on May 28 when Mike Hines & the Look perform. 8 p.m. Free.

Bethany Summer Concert Series: Concerts at 7:30 p.m. most Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from May 28-Sept. 5. Bandstand off Garfield Parkway. Free.

Monday Night Movie on the Beach: Bring the snacks and find your place in the sand for a movie on Dewey Beach starting on June 13. The outdoor movie series is set to kick off with the 2015 feature film "Cinderella," and will continue on Mondays through the end of August, with family favorites, including "Minions," "Goosebumps," "Inside Out," and "Tomorrowland." Movies start at 8:30 p.m. weather permitting. Mondays, June 13-Aug. 29. Dagsworthy Street. Free.

Movies at the Beach: There are movies on Bethany Beach as well. Dusk Mondays, starting June 13 with "The Peanuts Movie." Switches to Friday nights starting Sept. 9. No movie July 4. Beach or bandstand off Garfield Parkway. Free.

Bonfires on the Beach: Bring your beach chairs and marshmallows to the weekly bonfires on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. on Dagsworthy Street on Dewey Beach. June 14-Aug. 31. There will be no fire on July 5; a movie will be shown instead. Free.

Summer Concert Series in Stango Park: From June 14 to Aug. 30, Tuesdays evenings are for tunes in Stango Park, Lewes. Whether you like country bluegrass, R&B or classic rock, this summer concert series featuring live music offers a little bit of everything. 7 p.m. Free.
