A three-alarm fire damaged the 88-year-old Majestic Hotel in Ocean City, city officials reported.
Firefighters arrived at the hotel, located on the Boardwalk at 7th Street, around 12:30 p.m. Friday. Witnesses told investigators they heard a large boom, then saw smoke coming from the building. The fire was extinguished a short time later.
The hotel is closed for the winter, city officials said. Only one person, a maintenance worker, was known to be on the premises at the time of the blaze. A cadet firefighter was treated on the scene for a minor injury sustained while fighting the fire.
Investigators believe the fire started in the building's basement. The cause has yet to be determined.
