Going to OC for weekend? Leave your laser pointer at home, police say

The Baltimore Sun

Ocean City Police Department is warning visitors to put down the laser pointers.

A town ordinance that has been in effect since last summer virtually bans the use of laser pointers in most situations. It is illegal to point them or focus them on people or animals, in any manner.

It is also illegal to shine the pointers on a balcony, patio, porch, deck or any otehr place where people may gather. Ditto for windows or doors. That also goes for beaches, boardwalks, publci streets and sideawalks. Also banned for use in any vehicle on land or water and by vehicle, we mean scooters, bicycles, boats, Segways - you name it.

It's also illegal for minors to purchase the pointers within the corporate limits of Ocean City.

Violating the law is a misdemeanor that can lead to a $1,000 fine and up to six months in jail. Ocean City Police reminds the public that it is fully enforcing this law.

So take the boogie board, but leave the laser pointer at home.
