The creamed chipped beef will taste just the same. But, now, it will be served a little farther south on Ocean Highway.

General's Kitchen, Ocean City's "House of Chipped Beef," opened today at 66th Street and Ocean Highway, eight blocks away from its former location.

The restaurant lost its lease last fall for a former bank at on the east side of 74th Street and Coastal Highway, said owner Robert Noll.  The new location replaces Galaxy 66 Bar & Grille in a shopping center shared by the Skye Bar.

The new location has nearly double the seating of the old, with room for 150 patrons, Noll said.  This marks the third location for General's Kitchen, which Noll's stepfather founded 45 years ago in the former George Washington Hotel on the Boardwalk.

"He said, 'I'm in the general's hotel, so this is the general's kitchen,'" Noll recalled.

When the hotel closed in the early 1970s, the restaurant moved up to 74th Street, he said.

Noll said the restaurant still follows his stepfather's original creamed chipped beef recipe.

"We use top quality beef and make it fresh every day," he said.
