11. Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument

Pay homage to two of the nation's great presidents, Abraham Lincoln and George Washington, by visiting the monuments erected in their honor. Connected by a 2,000-plus foot reflecting pool, the majesty of the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument shine brightest when illuminated in the D.C. night sky. Damaged by the 2011 earthquake and Hurricane Irene, the Washington Monument will be closed to the public until 2014, but was recently adorned with lights that scale the 555-foot structure. Cost: Free. Address: Washington Monument, 2 15th St. N.W.; Lincoln Memorial, 2 Lincoln Memorial Circle, N.W. Website:
