Laurel residents gathered Dec. 16 to pay their respects to deceased veterans and to start a new Laurel tradition — Wreaths Across America, the laying of evergreen wreaths on the graves of more than 200 veterans at Ivy Hill Cemetery.

After not finding any more local wreath laying cemeteries last year and going to Bel Air to participate, a Baltimore County man has raised the money to place 3,500 wreaths at Dulaney Memorial Gardens with help from volunteers and Wreaths Across America.
This year, the 1,300 cemeteries that will be decorated include our own Deer Park Methodist Cemetery at 2200 Sykesville Road in Smallwood, the first in Carroll County to participate in Wreaths Across America.
