- The Towson branch of the Baltimore County Public Library has issued an invitation to Meet the Author during a continuing speaker series geared to senior citizens this fall. The four, hour-long programs sponsored by the Friends of Towson Library will feature former Sun writers Rafael Alvarez and Michael Olesker; Master bugler and "Taps" historian Jari Villaneuva and Ruxton writer Evan L. Balkan, lover of all things Baltimore and a writing teacher.
- Terence T. Finn, a retired NASA executive whose passion for military history led him to write four books on the subject, died June 27 of complications from a rare blood disorder. The Chestertown resident was 71.

- Boy Scout Troop 793 is a large, active troop which is chartered by, and meets at, the Glenelg United Methodist Church on Burntwoods Road. The troop works hard to support the food pantry at the church through Eagle Scout projects, fundraisers and food donation drives.
