Dissed by major critics at its March 2005 Broadway debut, Joe DiPietro's jukebox Elvis Presley musical "All Shook Up" now qualifies as a hit in Annapolis. The Talent Machine Company cast has mega-watt energy and youthful enthusiasm combined with vocal and dancing skills.

Traditionally this is when we reflect on the past year's highs in a variety of stellar acting and musical performances by established local groups in Anne Arundel County. In 2011, we also welcomed two new theater companies of surprisingly high caliber, and had a few more surprises that added excitement.

The Talent Machine Company's summer production of Cole Porter's "Can Can," showcasing its age 14 to 18 cast members, ran two weekends August 5 to 14 at St. John's College Key Auditorium.
