A call for Democratic consistency on foreign policy

Ironically, my friends on the left now obsess about President Trump and the Russians, much as a certain unhinged 1950s Cold Warrior, Joe McCarthy, fretted about President Truman. (To be clear, Mr. Trump is no Truman.) For Democrats, appeasing Mr. Putin was statesmanlike when Barack Obama did it; treasonous for Mr. Trump.

As Trump embraces the enemy, he should keep an eye out for their tricks

As President Trump continues to reach out to the world's despots — praising the "fantastic job" done by Egyptian strongman Abdel Fattah el-Sisi; saying he would be "honored" to meet with North Korea's Kim Jong Un; inviting death squad promoter and Philippines' president Rodrigo Duterte to the White House; congratulating Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on maintaining rule; and nurturing a bromance with Russia's Vladimir Putin — he would do well to keep in mind their perennial

The legal case against Trump's Muslim ban

The day after the United States bombed airfields in Syria to punish the Assad regime for the chemical slaughter of civilians, the Justice Department quietly filed its latest brief defending a ban on refugees from that country. Next month, appeals courts on both coasts will debate the matter, hearing argument in cases from Maryland and Hawaii, where two district judges found that a revised presidential order blocking immigrants from certain predominantly Muslim countries violates the

Who will get the last laugh from the Trump presidency?

For those of us who have had misgivings about the authenticity and the audacity of the Trump presidency from the beginning, there has been a certain delight in observing the missteps of a team easily described as "dumb and dumber."

Aleppo's fall furthers Russia's rise

Aleppo has fallen to the Russian-backed forces of Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad. This defeat forecasts the end of wider opposition efforts in Syria and is a major victory for the brutal Assad regime. For the United States, a significant aspect of this outcome is the victory that Russia can now claim in the Middle East, for it is now clear that Russian intervention in Syria is part of a greater objective to challenge the U.S. reign as global superpower and fundamentally undermine the Western

Culleton: Play to win in Syria

If we have learned nothing else in our misadventures in Syria we should know that the president thereof, Bashar al-Assad, is a bloodthirsty villain, not to be trusted under any circumstances. Therefore the dispatch of a column of trucks carrying food, water and medical supplies under the UN flag and with no armed escort into the long-suffering city of Aleppo was the height of folly.
