Franklin's Steven Smothers wanted to stand out at the Offense Defense All-American Bowl on New Year's Day and he ended up No. 3 on ESPN "SportsCenter" Top 10 Plays of the Night. Smothers was among several local players who stood out in All-America football games last week.

After sitting courtside for most big Maryland games in the past 15 years to root for his alma mater, ESPN anchor Scott Van Pelt plans to bring his new nightly midnight ¿Sports Center¿ show to Xfinity Center following the Nov.17 game against Georgetown.
