The UMBC softball team lost its first game in the Normal Regional of the NCAA Division I tournament, 12-0 to top-seeded Oklahoma on Friday night.
The Sooners (50-2) extended their NCAA-record winning streak to 40 in a row with the mercy-rule-shortened five-inning victory.
The Retrievers (30-23), who are making their first NCAA tournament appearance since 2002, are still alive in the double-elimination regional. They face Notre Dame at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday in an attempt to keep their season going. The winner will face either Wisconsin or Oklahoma on Sunday.
