Terps cornerback Barnes to miss rest of season

Maryland cornerback Kevin Barnes suffered a shoulder-blade fracture and is out for the season, coach Ralph Friedgen said yesterday. The senior was injured Saturday in the 26-0 victory over Wake Forest, but Friedgen delayed announcing the medical results until Barnes had met with doctors. "You would think the shoulder pads should have protected it. It's just one of those things, I guess," Friedgen said. Barnes will need surgery and is likely to have up to six months of rehabilitation, the coach said.
