Two-year deal for new acquisition Brouwer

The Washington Capitals signed right wing Troy Brouwer to a two-year contract worth $2.35 million per season. Washington acquired Brouwer, 25, who was a restricted free agent, from the Chicago Blackhawks on the first day of the 2011 NHL entry draft for its first-round (26th overall) selection. Brouwer had 17 goals, a career-high 19 assists and 262 hits, fifth in the NHL, last season. His new contract pushes the Capitals a little more than $1.8 million over the NHL salary cap of $64.3million for next season based on calculations with the numbers available at Capgeek.
