Around the NFL: Kellen Winslow joins Patriots

With the loss of tight end Aaron Hernandez due to an ankle injury, the New England Patriots have bolstered the position with the pending addition of veteran tight end Kellen Winslow.

Winslow has agreed to a one-year contract with the reigning AFC champions, a league source confirmed.

Winslow caught 75 passes for 763 yards and two touchdowns last season for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but quickly fell out of favor during a regime change to new coach Greg Schiano.

Winslow was cut by the Seattle Seahawks after a brief stint.

Winslow's health and attitude are his primary drawbacks, but he is a skilled receiving tight end.
