Kolbe's future as voice of Capitals in doubt

NHL

Baltimore native Steve Kolbe, the Washington Capitals' radio play-by-play announcer the past 14 seasons, might not be back in the broadcast booth next season. The team has decided to create and publicly list a new position of director of radio broadcasting, and whoever fills that role will also do the team's play-by-play. Kolbe — who was born in Highlandtown, was raised near Catonsville and attended Mount St. Joseph — will be able to apply for the job and could remain the play-by-play voice in the new capacity. He called his 1,000th NHL game during the 2010-11 campaign.
