Towson women’s basketball made program history Friday by earning its first trip to the Colonial Athletic Association championship game. Nukiya Mayo scored a game-high 22 points and the Tigers beat Hofstra, 69-48, in a CAA semifinal in Newark, Del.
Towson (19-12) advances to Saturday’s championship versus Drexel, a 73-69 overtime winner over Northeastern, at 1 p.m.
The fourth-seeded Tigers scored a CAA-championship record 29 points in the second quarter, followed by 19 points in the third quarter to distance themselves from the Pride (11-22). Qierra Murrary (Milford Mill) had 10 points and six assists for Towson.
