- Alex Yuan, a member of the public relations committee for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life of Western Howard County, is starting off the year with information about the 2014 Relay for Life. On Tuesday, Jan. 7, a kick-off rally will be held at the Gary J. Arthur Community Center in Glenwood at 7 p.m. to begin planning for the event, which will be held in June.

- "O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree." Well it is that time again, folks. The annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony in the lot adjacent to Rodgers Tavern will be held on Dec. 14 from 4 to 5:30 p.m.. There will be caroling, Santa will be there along with crafts for sale and light refreshments.
- Now that October has ended, I want to send a "shout out" to the Town of Port Deposit for "turning the town pink" in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The streetlamps in the center of town glowed pink all month long. - On Saturday, Oct. 12, the 2013-2014 Cecil County Fire Prevention Ambassador Contest was held at Station 6, Perryville. Main St. (the old Bank Building) and it will hold a grand opening and open house on Saturday, Aug. 17 from 1 to 5 p.m
- On Monday, July 8, a group of 15 seniors from Conowingo, Rising Sun and Port Deposit traveled to Baltimore to visit the Ronald McDonald House on Lexington Street. The group, formed in 2006, meets every Monday morning ¿ rain or shine ¿ at the Rising Sun McDonald's to play bingo.
- Port was in the news a lot the week before last, however, with most folks still in a state of shock in my neighborhood following the discovery of a little girl's body in a field behind my house
- The 2013 Bainbridge PAMI-CONUS Reunion was held from June 6 through 9 in Washington, D.C., and amazingly, I worked in PAMI-CONUS at Bainbridge during the summer between my junior and senior years at Perryville High School. I worked in the Document Control room, processing the computer reports that were generated by the huge reel-to-reel "computers" that filled the second floor of the brick PAMI-CONUS building
- Relay for Life of North Baltimore County held at Goucher College June 8. Hundreds partcipated in the annual American Cancer Society fundraising event, which kicked off as it always does, with the highlighted survivor lap.

- An 18-year-old man was arrested and accused of making a false bomb threat on Thursday that targeted the Old Mill school campus in Millersville, Anne Arundel County police said.
