- More than 200 people turned out for the July 28 kick-off to the renewed Adopt-A-Whooper program at the Patuxent National Wildlife Visitor Center in Laurel. The refuge has about 68 whooping cranes in its flock, and is the nation's leading center for crane recovery efforts.
