Seems like everyone passes through Laurel, at one time or another [Commentary]

From George Washington to George Wallace to the Astrodon johnstoni dinosaurs that roamed the wilds off Contee Road — no doubt killing time before the new Panera and Harris Teeter open in Laurel — it seems that Laurel has hosted virtually every species. I got to thinking about this when I heard the news of the recent death of James Brady, the press secretary to President Ronald Reagan. Both men were shot in 1981 by would-be assassin John Hinckley, and I later met Brady at Gayer's

Montgomery Street church helps feed, clothe through basement pantry

Last March, Maxine and Robert Pineda began storing and distributing food from a walk-in pantry in the church basement. In August, Boggs gave up his Pastor's Conference Room to move the Food Pantry into a larger space. As it continues to grow, Robert Pineda wants to expand the pantry into an offsite location, ideally on Main Street.

Reader gives two cents on Towne Centre at Laurel [Letter]

So far from what I've read the new Towne Centre at Laurel isn't going to make people jump into their car and come rushing to it. I shop at Columbia mall because of the major department stores and a very good selection of small stores. I can only hope that in the coming months the owners will announce that there will be brand name children's, men's and women's clothing stores coming to the center.

Joshua Paul Antlitz, 29, of the 600 block of Law Street and the 500 block of Cider Press Loop in Joppa, was arrested Friday on a bench warrant in a case in which he was charged with driving while his license was suspended, driving with a suspended registration, failure to display his license and speeding.

Some who were at The Mall in Columbia during the shootings are experiencing restless nights, troubled dreams, anxious thoughts. Counselors have stepped in to help, saying these are natural after effects but should they persists, people need to seek additional help

New stores, opening dates announced for Towne Centre at Laurel

Thomas Fitzpatrick, president and chief operating officer of developer Greenberg Gibbons, came before the Laurel City Council Monday, Jan. 27 to update the city on opening dates and new stores in the $110 million Towne Centre at Laurell, which, he said, could bring upward of 1,500 new jobs to the area; not counting the about 1,000 construction jobs in the building of the center.
