Local NAACP leaders threw their support on Friday behind a proposed high-speed magnetic levitation train through Maryland, saying it would mean jobs.

A proposed route for the high-speed maglev rail line, connecting Baltimore to Washington, D.C., could potentially run through South Laurel and city Mayor Craig Moe says he is against the project.

A high speed rail line connecting Baltimore and Washington D.C. is under environmental study with three proposed routes that would run through the Lansdowne and Baltimore Highlands area.

"There isn't a city in the U.S. ... that can get from the city center to the airport in five minutes."

Maglev technology is the answer for traffic congestion in Baltimore and Northeast.

An ambitious venture to build a high-speed rail line between Washington and Baltimore – based on an advanced technology that has received rave reviews from Gov. Larry Hogan – will open a new headquarters Monday in downtown Baltimore.
