- Since we're admitting our mistakes, I, for one, thought Dan Duquette needed to lay off the caffeine with his roster moves this year. Poor Ron Johnson, the manager at Triple-A Norfolk, needed a sharp pencil with a huge eraser all year.
- Orioles right fielder Nick Markakis is batting .341 as the No. 1 hitter in the lineup, and he's enjoying the extra at-bats -- and extra fastballs -- he's seen in that new role.
- The Orioles have placed infielder Wilson Betemit on the 15-day disabled list after an MRI taken before Thursday's game showed a small cartilage tear in his right wrist and a deep bone bruise. First baseman Joe Mahoney was called up from Triple-A Norfolk to replace Betemit on the roster.
- The Orioles have called up first baseman Joe Mahoney from Triple-A Norfolk to replace injured infielder Wilson Betemit. This is Mahoney¿s second stint with the big league club this season.
- Admittedly, Chris Davis is not really a fan of being a designated hitter. But he is a fan of playing regularly. And now that Jim Thome is on the shelf for roughly a month, Davis is back at DH.
- For only the second time since the Orioles moved to Baltimore, they went hitless in at least 15 at-bats with runners in scoring position in Wednesday's 12-3 loss to the New York Yankees.
- Right-hander Jason Hammel has been the club¿s biggest surprise. He¿s also been the Orioles¿ best starting pitcher and one of only two that has been consistent all year.
- The Orioles' first-half statistics aren't pretty, but they hold one statistical trump card. The only one that really, truly matters right now: .529. That's the fifth best winning percentage in the American League.
- Dan Duquette said Wednesday that Orioles will seek a 'set-up hitter' this month.
- Finally, the Orioles have another outfielder in the outfield. On Thursday, the club promoted Xavier Avery from Triple-A Norfolk when first baseman Nick Johnson was placed on the disabled list with a strained right wrist.
- Xavier Avery is back with the team and back in the lineup, batting second and starting in left field. Nick Johnson has been placed on the disabled list with a strained right wrist.
- Orioles reliever Matt Lindstrom has to wait one more day to come off the disabled list as the club reshuffles its pitching staff. Lindstrom has been on the disabled list since May 11 with a partially torn ligament in his right finger.
- Orioles outfielder Nolan Reimold underwent successful surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital Monday morning to remove a herniated disk placing pressure on a nerve in his neck, the Orioles announced.
- The monster inning, the one that has haunted Jake Arrieta for much of this season, lurked on Sunday afternoon. But the Orioles pitcher survived the trouble and may have turned a corner mentally three starts after his brief demotion tot he bullpen.
- Orioles left fielder Nolan Reimold will have surgery to remove a bulging disk in his neck and have his spine fused Monday morning. And although he holds out hope he could return by the end of the season, Reimold likely will be gone for the rest of the year.
- In today's pregame, Orioles manager Buck Showalter a decision has been made on the next step with outfielder Nolan Reimold, who hasn't played since April 30. Showalter wouldn't say what that decision is, but it appears from the way Showalter was talking that Reimold will have surgery.
- This upcoming stretch will be a good test for the Orioles. The Washington Nationals lead the NL East, the Cleveland Indians lead the AL Central and the Los Angeles Angels are the hottest team in baseball since calling up Mike Trout.
- It's not exactly a surprise, but the Orioles' top prospects, right-hander Dylan Bundy and shortstop Manny Machado, have been named to the prestigious 14th annual SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game.
-
- Orioles outfielder Nolan Reimold is seeing a second cervical specialist today in Baltimore for another opinion on his neck problems ¿ a suggestion made by the first specialist, Dr. Lee Riley, whom Reimold saw in the last few days.
- Jake Arrieta said he's going into his next start Monday against the New York Mets at CitiField refreshed and with a much better frame of mind than the cluttered one of frustration he experienced before being demoted to the bullpen.
- Chris Davis couldn't pinpoint the last time he made a start in right field — a statement in itself how long and infrequent it's been for the Orioles' DH and corner infielder.
- The Orioles received good and bad news on the ever-puzzling health of left fielder Nolan Reimold, who has been out of all baseball activites for nearly seven weeks with a bulging disk in his neck. An MRI showed that the disk has shrunk and the inflammation is gone ¿ the good news ¿ but the club now has no reason why Reimold is still experiencing spots of tingling in his left arm and hasn¿t been able to regain his strength. So Reimold ¿ who has been his DL time in and out of doctors offices ¿ will now see a neurosurgeon to see if his problems are nerve-related. Orioles manager Buck Showalter said he expected to receive the neurosurgeon¿s findings on Monday.
- The Orioles' decision to start right-hander Jake Arrieta on Wednesday instead of scheduled starter Brian Matusz included plenty of moving parts.
- Orioles outfielder Endy Chavez, his strained right hamstring still sore after pulling up lame rounding first base last night, is out of the lineup for tonight's game against the Pirates and is currently day-to-day. Chavez said he didn't believe he would have been able to play tonight but said he didn't think the injury would force him onto the disabled list for the second time this season. He spent 19 days on the disabled last month with an oblique strain.
- Robert Andino, who has played second base in 56 of the Orioles' first 60 games, was out of the lineup Tuesday, as Brian Roberts returned from the 60-day disabled list. And Andino said he's OK if he's no longer the starter there.
- Orioles optioned infielder Steve Tolleson to Triple-A Norfolk and moved Nolan Reimold from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list Tuesday to make room for Brian Roberts on the 25-man and 40-man rosters.
- The rain's coming down here at Oriole Park at Camden Yards and the tarp is on the infield. We're not sure we're going to get tonight's series opener against the Pirates in, but there's still plenty of news coming from the Orioles clubhouse.
- More than 16 years after he left Baltimore and joined the Dan Duquette-led Boston Red Sox, ageless left-hander Jamie Moyer is back in the Orioles organization.
- Center fielder Adam Jones, who was scheduled for a MRI on his right wrist Monday morning, tweeted around 10:30 a.m. that he is "all good" and headed to "Beantown" for Tuesday's series opener against the Boston Red Sox. A source confirmed that the MRI was negative, and Jones hopes to play Tuesday.
- Kevin Cowherd rounds up the latest news and notes about the Baltimore Orioles
- Adam Jones, the team's best player this season and the recent recipient of a six-year, $85.5 million contract extension, felt soreness in his right wrist during Sunday's 8-4 loss to Tampa Bay.
- Give some credit to Orioles manager Buck Showalter and center fielder Adam Jones for not cursing the fates and attributing the club's recent skid to the rash of injuries that has decimated the 25-man roster.
- The Orioles' lineup Friday featured Steve Tolleson, usually a utility infielder, in left field for his first start there in his big-league career. Veteran Bill Hall, who just rejoined the team from Triple-A Norfolk, started in right field.
- With starting rightfielder Nick Markakis shelved with wrist surgery, making him the eighth Orioles player on the disabled list, manager Buck Showalter had to be creative making Friday night's lineup against the Rays at Tropicana Field.
- Don't know about you, but the prospect of the Orioles bringing up a Triple-A outfielder to replace Nick Markakis and trying to get through the next couple of weeks (at least) with a very thin offensive attack just isn't very palatable.
