- Matt Wieters participated in pregame drills at first base for the second straight day and manager Buck Showalter said Wieters could see time there in the future.
- Orioles reliever Darren O'Day didn't pitch in Tuesday's All Star Game, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have an on-field moment worth crowing about. "I robbed a home run at the wall in batting practice," said O'Day, who said he shagged a would-be homer by Los Angeles Angels outfielder Albert Pujols. "That was one of my goals."
- Right-hander Jonathan Hughes, who the Orioles selected in the second round (68th overall) out of Flowery Branch High School in Georgia has decided to go to Georgia Tech, Orioles scouting director Gary Rajsich said.
- It's rare for the Orioles to assign a pitcher to Frederick in his first full season, but the results are beginning to show with right-hander David Hess. The 2014 fifth-round pick struck out seven in seven scoreless one-hit innings Tuesday to lower his ERA to 4.75. Since the All-Star break, Hess is 1-0 with a 0.95 ERA in three starts.
- Chris Perez, a former All Star reliever, needs to serve a 50-game suspension before pitching for Norfolk.
